Biography
Akhil Mehrotra is a business leader with over 29 years of experience spread across the oil & gas, power and telecom industries, with more than 16 years in leadership roles. He has managed P&L business, risk and performance turnaround, spearheaded business growth and strategy development, driven continuous improvement and lean initiatives, and coached leaders and employees. His contribution towards drafting several electricity and gas sector regulations has been instrumental in his journey of being a thought leader in the energy sector.
Before joining Pipeline Infrastructure Limited in 2019 as CEO, he was associated with companies of repute such as Shell Plc, BG Plc, Gujarat Gas Limited and Reliance Group. In Shell, Akhil led the Mahanagar Gas Ltd and Hazira import terminal business as GM – IG Ventures & Head –City Gas Distribution Business. Prior to Shell Plc, he was associated with Reliance Group for almost a decade. He has also worked as Director – Downstream Business and Director – Regulations and Business Development at BG India and Gujarat Gas Limited (on deputation from BG Group), respectively.
Akhil is a BE-Mechanical Engineering graduate, holds an MBA in finance, and a PhD in gas markets. Apart from completing a management program from IIM Bangalore, he has in his name a gamut of specialized courses from esteemed global institutions like Harvard Business School, Kellogg’s School of Management and London Business School.
In 2013, Akhil spearheaded the report on “Vision 2030” for the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board. In 2016, he played a pivotal role in leading the initial public offer of Mahanagar Gas Limited. Akhil has held several significant positions over the years. He was Chairman at Mahanagar Gas Limited (a Fortune 500 company) in 2017 & 2018. He has also served on the boards of many respected organizations, including Shell Energy India Pvt ltd and Hazira Ports Private Limited.
